Some people love Cory Booker and others hate him. But his stock is high and he seems to have the right financial backers. He is trying to be a Senator, which would be huge, since he’d be one of a small number of African Americans to ever serve in the Senate.
He’s also young. At just 44 years of age, it’s quite possible that he could end up running for president one day. Not that it would matter much for black people, but whatever.
Newark Mayor Cory Booker announced today that he would run in a special election to finish the late Frank Lautenberg’s term in the U.S. Senate. Lautenberg died on Monday.
Booker, a 44-year-old Democrat who has served mayor since 2006 is hoping to claim Lautenberg’s seat during the special election in October.
He made the announcement at the offices of Audible Inc., a provider of audio over the Internet that moved its headquarters to Newark in 2007 and has been endorsed by former U.S. Sen. Bill Bradley. Booker would be New Jersey’s first black U.S. senator.
