At the top of the list of actions not to take while on the run from the cops is publicizing your location. One alleged Pennsylvania criminal, however, didn’t realize that posting on social media about getting out of town would lead to his capture.
When police went looking for 22-year-old Donald Harrison, they didn’t need to look far since the suspect posted a Facebook picture of himself on a Greyhound bus.
Harrison is accused of assaulting a woman and refusing to allow the woman to leave her apartment. Instead of staying to face the charges, Harrison hopped on a Greyhound bus to skip town, but not before posting a selfie of himself on the bus, along with the caption “IT’S TIME TO LEAVE PA” and “OMW TO SPARTANSBURG SC SAY A PRAYER FOR ME.”
“We like it when dumb criminals assist us in our investigation,” Ambridge police Chief James Mann told the Beaver County Times, according to the Associated Press.
It was the woman who’d accused Harrison of assault who actually spotted the Facebook post where Harrison announced his travel plans. Police called Greyhound and learned that a bus bound for Spartansburg had indeed departed only 15 minutes earlier. When the bus made a stop in Ohio, police there were waiting to arrest Harrison.
“I guess when the bus pulled in they instructed the driver to keep the door shut until police got there, and the rest is history,” Mann said. “We’ve been on ‘World’s Dumbest Criminals’ for a couple of things, but his actions certainly qualifies for another episode.”
Harrison allegedly fractured the vertebrae of the woman he’s accused of assaulting and holding hostage.
Once he’s extradited from Ohio, he will be charged with aggravated assault.
