Eric Garner was chοked to deαth by an NYPD cop on suspicion of selling loose cigarettes, while John Crawford was gunned down in an Ohio Walmart while carrying a pellet gun. If justice were blind in this country, then a white man who was armed to the teeth should have been taken out immediately.
Instead, officers with the Gonzales Police Department patiently coaxed the man out of his apartment so he could be safely taken into custody.
Brandon D. Gibbs, 29, is with the “sovereign citizen” movement and was wearing body armor with a knife strapped to his chest, a Kevlar helmet, and was also armed with pepper spray when he was confronted by police on Tuesday.
Gibbs, who has a history of making threαts, was accused of having made threαtening phone calls to Gonzales City Hall. He is a part of the sovereign citizen movement which does not recognize state or federal authority.
“When the police officers knocked on Gibbs’ door, he opened it a few inches and ‘demanded to see the officers’ hands,’ police said. The officers backed away, and Gibbs eventually stepped out of the doorway. He was wearing full body armor, a Kevlar helmet with a plastic face shield, camouflage pants and a shirt, and held a can of pepper spray in his hand,” NOLA.com reports.
Gibbs actually refused to drop the can of pepper spray and walked in the direction of an officer with it, but he still wasn’t injured by police. Instead, another officer pepper sprayed Gibbs underneath his face mask and used what the department calls “minimum force” to disarm the man.
According to NOLA.com, “Gibbs was charged on suspicion of attempted aggravated battery, resisting an officer, possession of schedule I narcotics, illegal possession of body armor in the presence of narcotics and improper telephone communications.”
