In an autopsy report released last week, it was revealed that the former Los Angeles Police Department Officer, Christopher Jordan Dorner, killed himself rather than avoid being taken out by authorities.
The former United States Navy Reserve officer was being hunted by police who had tracked him down in the San Bernardino Mountains along the shore of Big Bear Lake, California, after exacting revenge on former captain, Randal Quan.
Dorner believed that his dismissal from the LAPD, after he filed a false report, was the result of poor representation before the disciplinary board by Quan. It is believed that he killed Quan’s 28-year-old daughter, Monica Quan and her 27-year-old fiancé, Keith Lawrence, in an act of revenge against his superior officer.
Before he embarked on his violent rampage early in February last year, Dorner is said to have posted on his Facebook page an 11,000 word post which later became known as his manifesto.
Dorner wrote on his Facebook page that it was never wise to allow a retired LAPD Captain such as Quan to represent you as your LAPPL union attorney. He added that such a person would never represent your best interests because they still worked for the department.
“His job is to protect the department from civil lawsuits being filed and their best interest which is the almighty dollar. His loyalty is to the department, not his client,” wrote Dorner. He continued, “Even when he knows you’re innocent and the BOR also knows after Christopher Gettler stated on videotape that he was kicked and Evans attorney confessed to the BOR off the record that she kicked Gettler.”
It was always suspected that Dormer had taken his own life, rather than be captured to face the consequences of his actions, but it was not confirmed until last Friday’s autopsy report was released. The report revealed that he had died as the result of a self inflicted gunshot to the head with a 9mm gun while he was in a standoff position with the police.
The New York native died at the age of 33 on February 12, 2013, but his claim that he was racially targeted by the LAPD because he did the right thing and reported one of his colleagues, still raises suspicion among the black community.
In his online rant, Dormer also stated that since the police department had taken away everything from him, including his name, he would show them what revenge meant. “You have awoken a sleeping giant,” he added.
