Former Deputy Alton Walter is accused of going to a woman’s house to discipline a misbehaving 12 year old.
The boy’s mother said she hoped the deputy would talk to her son and get him back on the right track, but instead, the deputy put her son in the hospital.
“I’m in shock, I’m mad, I’m upset, I’m just stunned,” said the boy’s mother, who is a single parent. “He’s a wonderful kid, very smart in school, good academics, a good kid. It’s just that Brandon started hanging out with the wrong crowd so to speak.”
The mother said her son began hanging out later and bringing around friends who she thought were a bad influence on her son. So she decided to have Walter speak with her son as a precaution.
“As a concerned mom, I refuse to let the streets have my baby,” said the mom, who did not want to be identified.
It was a family friend who suggested that the deputy come by and speak with the 12 year old.
“That’s all the situation was supposed to have been, that the officer come over, speak to my son, talk to him … no physical contact,” said the mom.
The mom was at work when she gave Deputy Walter permission to come by and speak with her son. It was neighbors who heard the boy crying out and saw the deputy pushing the boy up against a shed and handcuffing him to a basketball goal. A neighbor told WRDW that he saw the officer punching the 12 year old and throwing him on the ground.
Deputy Walter was terminated and faces criminal charges.
