Certain celebrities somehow earn a little extra respect from their peers and fans, and rapper J. Cole is that guy. While Cole is respected for his sensational music and lyricism, he is also revered for contributing wonderful treasures to society.
After releasing his two studio albums in 2011 and 2013, fans and music business moguls waited with bated breath for his third album. And when he finally released 2014 Forest Hills Drive, it proved to be worth the wait.
But Cole is about more than music. Recently, the artist invited fans to a listening session at the home he’s named the album via social media. This was his childhood home that was taken away from his mother, but that he decided to buy later.
Now, he’s made another move that has attracted attention. The rapper is planning on letting single mothers with multiple kids live in the house for free.
“My goal is to have that be a haven for families,” he said. “So every two years, a new family will come in. They’ll live rent-free. The idea is that it’s a single mother with multiple kids, and she’s coming from a place where all her kids [are] sharing a room. She gets to come here rent-free. I want her kids to feel how I felt when we got to the house.”
In an interview with The Combat Jack Show, the recording artist divulged information about his music life, his background and how life was for him growing up. He talks about how he and his family moved from a military housing facility to a trailer house, then to the Forest Hills home he talks about in the album.
Cole says the house held fond memories. It was his excitement about the house as a kid that drove him to repurchase it. His dreams were valid and he worked his way up to be where he is today.
“Even though I was living in the future, I was living so hopeful in the future. I had faith. It was hope and faith. I was appreciating the journey because I was sure of what was to come,” said Cole.
Due to the nature of the program, he plans to handle it carefully, together with his team, so that it runs smoothly.
