Rapper Cam’ron Sells Ebola Face Masks With His Picture on It

Up until now, the world’s response to Ebola has been to tackle the disease at the source-in hotspots like Liberia and Sierra Leone-without panicking. But just last week a traveler at Dulles airport was spotted wearing a Hazmat suit. Now, rapper Cam’ron is attempting to profit off fear, and have a little fun, by selling Ebola face masks that include a picture of the rapper on the front.

The mask looks ordinary enough were it not for the large picture of Cam’ron, dressed in pink, holding a cellphone and wearing diamond rings.

In that sense, the mask being sold by Cam’ron is more of a marketing tool than a mask to protect oneself from a lethal disease.

Cam’ron promotes the masks with a selfie of the rapper wearing the mask.

In the product description, the mask promises “polypropylene outer facing’ offering a ‘soft, fluid protection barrier while the cellulose inner facing assures comfort and breathability” with “a full-width nosepiece guarantees proper fit. Latex-free ear loops.”

On Twitter, the rapper who is best known for his 90s hits posted, “Ebola is no joking matter.. So if u have to be safe.. Be fashionable.”

An Ebola outbreak began in West Africa, but the first transmission of the disease in the U.S. came when Thomas Duncan traveled to Texas from Liberia. Duncan was initially turned away from the hospital, even after revealing his travels. By the time he returned, he was already vomiting and suffering from severe diarrheα.

Duncan died at Texas Presbyterian Hospital, but two nurses contracted the disease during his stay. They are currently being treated at separate facilities.

Members of Duncan’s family have come forward alleging that racism played a role in the level of care he received. Duncan didn’t receive an experimental drug until late in his treatment and he never received a bloοd transfusion or zMapp, the drug used to treat at least two other survivors.
