Reported by Nigel Boys
Thirty-five-year-old, two-time Grammy Award nominated gospel music artist, James Fortune (pictured), who was accused of abusing his stepson in 2001, is on the wrong side of the law again for allegedly assaulting another family member, according to MyFoxHouston.com.
The report continues that a spokesman for Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office in Richmond, Texas, told them that Fortune was arrested on October 24 for aggravated assault of a family member, but later released on bond of $20,000.
The previous time the radio personality on 1190 AM WLIB was arrested for abuse of a family member ended up with him serving six years deferred adjudication when he pleaded guilty to felony injury to a child in 2003.
Fortune had allegedly placed his stepson into a scalding hot bath and held him there causing 2nd and 3rd degree burns after whipping him for acting up in class at pre-school.
While some ignored the fact that Fortune got off lightly with such a serious offense on a toddler, the boy’s biological father pursued the matter in court. He sued Fortune and his wife, Cheryl, the boy’s natural mother, for $5 million because the child would need to undergo continued plastic surgery.
The 2012 lawsuit alleged that the boy, who had been four-years-old at the time, had been left severely disfigured with burns that covered almost half of his entire body.
In response to the lawsuit, Fortune said that any criminal investigations surrounding the matter which occurred in 2001 had been resolved in 2003. He added that since that time, his family, including his stepson, had continued to enjoy a loving family environment.
Fortune went on to say that he was grateful for the support of his followers, his family and ministry and asked for their continued prayers as they dealt with the lawsuit. He added that he loved all the members of his family, including his stepson.
