TLC slams Rihanna for the way she dresses

The remaining members of TLC, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, are speaking out about the provocative way Rihanna dresses.  Riianna recently stirred things up by wearing a see through dress to the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards. Rihanna was awarded with the 2014 Fashion Icon Award.  The award is given to a person whose style has significantly influenced popular culture on an international level.  CFDA CEO Steven Kolb made a statement about Rihanna winning the award and said, “We are proud to present Rihanna with the CFDA Fashion Icon Award for her impact on the industry as fashion’s most exciting ambassador in recent memory.”

In her acceptance speech, Rihanna stated that growing up in Barbados, “I didn’t have a lot of access to fashion.  Fashion has always been my defense mechanism…I can compensate for all my weaknesses with my fashion.  There are rules, but rules are meant to be broken.”

Despite what may have been good intentions by the CFDA and Rihanna, the media and many celebrities do not feel that Rihanna’s barely clothed nakedness that exposed her nipples and backside was appropriate.

T-Boz and Chilli were among those who felt it was inappropriate, and they voiced their concern in an interview with an Australian media station.  T-Boz directed her comments at Rihanna stating: “Every time I see you, you don’t have to be naked.  It’s hard for us to say anything because anytime we do, they say, ‘Oh TLC must be jealous,’ but I call a spade a spade.”  Chilli voice her opinion as well stating: “We became the biggest selling group of all time with our clothes on and that says a lot.  We could go around too with booby cakes out all day long.”

Rihanna did not respond to the women’s comments directly but instead made a Twitter post stating: “When there’s not changing the fact that I’m me, and they’re well…they’re them.”

They all make valid points, and with fans of both TLC and Rihanna becoming involved, the contention between them may just be heating up.

  1. i am not interested in rihanna..ok?? she is so unprofessional..ok??kwanza

  2. And in other news…

  3. TLC had 'raw talent'….only when you are short on talent one move to dressing like a ______!!!!!

  4. Another insulting article that has been presented to keep the focus off important issues…Smh

  5. Look who's talking!

  6. …………………………………………….

  7. Who asked "the has beens " their opinions in the 1st place?

  8. T-Boz, you could not had said it any better. TLC always has class in my book, I even have their music. I wouldn't have or listen to Rihanna music if the download was free. NO CLASS AT ALL.

  9. Although this is a "non story", here is yet another case of black women, pointing their perfectly manicured fingers at another black woman. This is soooooo tiring. Everyone has the God given right, to make as big an ass out of themselves as they like. There is no need to point out the obvious. When you sound catty, don't be surprised if someone offers you a saucer of milk.

  10. Lol lol

  11. it doesn't matter…. TLC is right on the money..
Rih is just nothing a nobody like the Kardashians =who! Who! Real strange man…

  12. That was then this is now. Her music and style are off the charts popular. Why would she change that? Especially if she is comfortable with the skin she is in. Digg It!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. why is this news they have a right to their opinion what's the big deal about what they fell and why is what rere wore so importaant

  14. TLC is correct, though Left Eye's condom eye patches were also controversial back then. Rihanna is already a superstar in pop, so why the need to keep promoting the spirit of fornication with her clothes? She's but a mere puppet of hell-bent handlers who love money at the expense of their own souls.

  15. But who determines who is “in” and who is “out?” The same old guys who determined when TLC was hot and not are also the same ones who will do the same for Rihanna. These guys are in their 70s, and Miley Cyrus dropped a big hint about them earlier this year that went almost unnoticed. So instead of focusing on whether TLC is hot or not, we should ask, “Just who are the puppet masters who determine hot or not status?”

  16. This is nothing more than subtle envy on the part of TLC and an attempt to use Rihanna to regain attention to themselves as they're currently attempting to rekindle their careers.

  17. Moral are moral and money is just money and the game is to hustle and keep you pockets filled with it remember the song cash rules everything around me =cream get the money dollar bills and sex sell as drugs and the point is if the one who raised you don't speak out so why should we care she from the Island there life style and cultural is 360 different. So if you have no moral and lots of money, your values to life flows wherever the money goes.

  18. It’s being said increasingly… Rihanna is short and talent and has to rely on cheap, tawdry tactics such as continuing to lower the bar for young (AA) females. The problem is, though, as they – not knowing any better – urge her on to debase herself more and more (she calls it “fandom”) and emulate her as one who speaks for many of them – lowest common denominator – she wears couture and most of them can neither fit not spell it. No uplift that results in anything substantial beyond the proliferation of means to keep the cycle moving. Very sad.

  19. Didn’t (permiscuous) “Hot-Chili” sleep with “Peebles” husband?

  20. These ladies are concerned about her. As women we dont have to show all of what we have.

  21. I agree with T-Boz, Rihanna needs to gain self confidence in herself, she is too talented and too beautiful to feel as though she has to show her naked body to everyone to prove she is somebody. Real men will like you a hell of a lot better, as well as respect you, if you show some class and not so much Ass! This latest outfit I would not let my dog be seen in it! Maybe T-Boz did have an affair with Pebbles husband but today that is not the subject, Rihanna showing her behind all the time is.

  22. Back in the day TLC pushed the envelope as far as provocative fashion goes. I won't call them hypocrites but my how soon we forget. Time and maturity brings about a change. I'm sure that if TLC were relevant today they would be exposing themselves just as much as they're allowed like they did back then. I can remember their skimpy outfits the suggestive poses. And most of the time when I saw them, class was not the first thing to come to mind. I guess they've matured, time and mother nature will do that to you, I mean for you. If Rihanna is comfortable with her body and her serialize then as long as she got it she should flaunt it. And when dudes be looking at Rihanna I don't think class comes to mind. I would smash Rihanna like the fist of an angry God!!! LOL! Check out rhis image of TLC back in rhe day. I would say that it was prettt provocative back then just like most of the things they did to shock and sell records. And if TLC had it like Rihanna got it, then flaunt it. But they had back then and Rihanna has it today.

  23. If Rihanna is comfortable with her body and her SEXUALITY…. damn auto correct!!

  24. TLC was dead on!!

  25. Like Mike said, They don’t really care about us. They put the Rihanna’s out there to steer our children down the wrong path.

  26. I agree – poor Rihanna – she’s gone too far this time. this is not a message to send young girls. Beyoncé is getting just like her – she’s now dressing provocatively but this dress was way too nasty! Ever time Rihanna breaks up with Chris Brown she goes wild – she used Drake to get back at Chris. Chris better stay where he is with the decent girl he has. The world has seen everything Rihanna has and Beyoncé is not far behind. how sad for the young girls of today that’s why they dress the way they do with everything showing. Rihanna wake up you are not going to get Chris back showing all of you to the rest of the world.
