According to court documents, Grammy-nominated R&B singer Angie Stone was arrested Monday along with her daughter for a domestic violence incident that occurred between the two. The documents show that Stone and her daughter, Diamond, were in an argument about Stone’s grandchildren when things turned violent.
Stone told police that her daughter punched her in the face, so she defended herself using a metal stand that accidentally hit Diamond in the face, knocking out her front teeth. A police report reveals that Stone says that she tried to leave but that her daughter came after her again before a family friend separated them.
Diamond reported to police that the argument started over Stone complaining that she did not clean up after herself and her children and did not control them. A police report states, “Ms. Diamond Stone then went on to state that Ms. Angie Stone started [getting] in her face, telling her she needed to leave because she is tired [of] her. Ms. Diamond Stone then stated her and Ms. Angie Stone started to argue, and that’s when a physical altercation started to occur.”
A DeKalb County police incident report says that neither Diamond or Blondy Chisolm, the family friend who broke up the fight, were sure who threw the first punch. Diamond was released without any charges, but Stone was charged with domestic aggravated assault. DeKalb County police Captain Stephen Fore did not have any other details about the incident or arrest, and a representative for Stone has not responded for requests for comments.
Stone has previously been arrested while on her way to church after she was caught speeding and driving on a suspended license. She is best known for her R&B hits “Brotha,” “No More Rain” and “Wish I Didn’t Miss You.” She also recently appeared on the show “R&B Divas: Atlanta.”
