The body of a 10-year-old girl who had gone missing has finally been found. Her remains were recovered Saturday afternoon from a Texas well, four days after the girl’s disappearance.
KETK-TV reported that law enforcement officers said the body that was recovered was positively identified as that of the missing girl, Kayla Gomez. The channel further stated that officers believe that an unnamed uncle of the girl may have been involved in the heinous incident.
An Amber Alert was circulated after the girl went missing following a prayer service at Bullard First Assembly Church located on U.S. Highway 69 in Cherokee’s town of Bullard.
Speaking to NBC 5, Gomez’s brother said children normally converge for a special service before meeting with their families afterward. As usual, the family patiently waited for Gomez to join them at the lobby after the service but she never turned up.
The girl’s body would later be pulled out of a well along Old Jacksonville Highway. No further details have been released by the authorities on their investigations, which seek to establish what happened to the little girl.
Before the girl’s body was discovered, there was a reward of $13,000 announced by authorities for anyone who provided information leading to the finding of the girl. However, it’s not yet clear how the girl’s body was discovered.
The uncle, who’s suspected to have been involved in the incident, was arrested and taken into police custody. According to family members, the suspect was a cousin, who “acted like an uncle to Kayla.”
Gomez was described by authorities as a 4-feet tall girl, 90 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a peach-colored skirt and a black Racquet & Jog shirt.
Many online users were so moved by the sad story and prayed for the family for strength during this trying moment.
“My heart goes out for the family during the loss of this little angel & “WILL” be praying for them all during this time… God bless them all,” wrote one user on NBCDFW.com.
“I have no words. Of all the places in this evil world your children should be safe at it’s at church,” said another.
Another user by the name Lee Graves couldn’t hide his anger against the person who committed the evil act. He wrote, “Who would do something like this to a 10 year old who never did nothing to no one, I hope he rots in Hell for eternity, bless her little Heart, God will greet you with open arms…”
May the little angel rest in peace.
