Former rap mogul Marion “Suge” Knight was arrested on mυrder charges for running over a man with his pick-up truck. Knight’s attorney, however, says there’s an explanation for what happened.
The former Deαth Row Records executive stands accused of kιlling one man while injuring another, but his attorney says the accused man was just trying to escape an attαck.
The incident occurred after Knight was told to leave a film location due to an argument he’d had with someone on set.
Knight and the man continued to argue at a fast food restaurant and the verbal argument ended with a physical exchange. Apparently, Knight was in his vehicle when pυnches were thrown through the window. Knight’s attorney says he struck the man and a friend while trying to escape the attαck.
Knight’s friend, 55 year old Terry Carter, passed away at the hospital. The other man, identified as Cle “Bone” Sloan, was taken to the hospital and remains in stable condition.
Police, however, say those who witnessed the incident claim it appeared intentional.
“Then he puts the truck in drive, drives forward, running over him, and then keeps going forward and keeps on driving, and runs over Carter, who is standing in the parking lot, and keeps on going after that,” said Lt. John Corina said.
Defense attorney James Blatt said Knight was lured to Tam’s Burgers in Compton for a meeting and was attαcked by four people, including Sloan, as he slowed his truck. According to Blatt, Knight was fighting for his life when he ran over the men.
Knight, 49, turned himself in on Friday. The former label head has had several run-ins with the law since famed rapper Tupac Shakur was shot to deαth while riding with Knight. He originally began his label as a way of consolidating West Coast rap and during the height of his success, was considered a rival to Sean “Diddy” Combs.
