Although her picture has made the rounds on social media, Dornella Conners only recently told her story to local affiliate KMOV.
She says the incident occurred while she and her boyfriend, D’Angelas Lee, were leaving a gas station on Tuesday morning and were accosted by police. According to Conners, officers pulled up and immediately took an aggressive posture towards the couple.
“They pulled up while we were coming towards the street, De’Angelas was trying to get away, they blocked us from the side, front and back,” Conners said.
She says her boyfriend was trying to drive around police when he drove in their direction but police officers apparently interpreted the car’s movement as a threαt.
Police say they were fearing for their lives when they fired a lethal bean bag round at the couple. The bean bag broke the passenger side window, smαshing the glass and causing injury to Conners’ eyes.
“I’m very upset, very disappointed with tactics that they used trying to get control of situation,” said Donnell Conners, Dornella’s father. “I understand tough job, I understand that it was chaos, there was no reason to fire upon innocent person sitting in a vehicle.”
Police insist that Lee was being a troublemaker while at the gas station and drove away to avoid arrest. Police have issued an arrest warrant for Lee and have already set bond at $50,000.
