When Xu Long (pictured), a resident in Jiujiang’s Jiangxi Province in China, went to the doctor in 1974 to have acupuncture to treat his stomach ache, he thought his problems were over when the pain immediately disappeared.

The young Chinese man was happy that the stomach pain that he had suffered for two days had gone completely, but over the years he began to feel increasing discomfort in his back and chest, according to Fox News. The report continues that although he went to see several doctors, they just put it down to feelings of old age approaching.

However, 40 years later, at the age of 60-years-old, Xu could no longer bear the pain and doctors in China decided to X-ray his body to find out what was causing the problem.

What the doctors found in his body surprised both them. The former military man who’d endured decades of pain, according to Dr. Ye Lin, had an acupuncture needle in his stomach from the acupuncture procedure he received 40 years ago. Dr. Yin performed a surgical technique to remove the foreign object from Mr Xu.

According to Xu, he was worried that he might have cancer, since the doctors had told him that there was a foreign object in his stomach. He added that he was very much relieved when he discovered the offending object turned out to be part of the acupuncture needle that had been used on him so long ago.

Dr. Lin said that apparently the needle had been traveling through his body as he moved over the years. He added that the 3cm-long needle had eventually come to rest in his intestines, but had turned black and was very thick because of the oxidation over the years.

Mr. Xu spoke of the incident, saying that now his pain is completely gone, and he is relieved and felt like a “winner all round.” He added that you could imagine his shock and relief when he was told that the source of his discomfort was the acupuncture needle used 40 years ago.
