Defiant Maryland Students Bring More Confederate Flags to School

Almost a week after a Maryland high school student brought a Confederate flag to a football gameconfederate flag and only days after that student was disciplined by school officials, two more students have been forced to remove Confederate flags.

According to local affiliate WTOP, two students displayed the traitorous flag shortly before the opening bell on Wednesday.

“They were asked to put them away, and they did,” Howard schools spokesperson Rebecca Amani-Dove told the Washington Post. “It has been calm at the school.”

A Glenelg High School student waved the Confederate flag during the season opening game on Friday evening. The unnamed student, who was standing on the bleachers when the flag was displayed, was disciplined, although school officials would not share how that student was disciplined.

“Carrying a Confederate flag is not illegal, but anything that causes disruption is actionable from an administrative perspective,” Amani-Dove said after the incident. “Administrative action was taken in alignment with our student code of conduct.”

The picture of the student waving the flag while surrounded by other cheering students quickly went viral on social media.

“Public displays of the Confederate Flag evoke division, hate and subjugation — precisely the opposite of the values we hold in Howard County, and in Maryland,” Howard County Executive Ken Ulman posted on his Facebook page Monday. “We must teach our kids why this is such a hurtful symbol to so many people. We must fight against injustice and intolerance in any form, especially at our schools.”

Amani-Dove did not disclose how or whether the two students waving the Confederate flag on Wednesday will be disciplined, but did say the school does not condone “anything that causes a disruption.”

  2. Come to da MILLS WIT DAT! Hol' up! hol' up! WE DEM BOYYYSS!!!

  3. ARE YOU SURPRISE????????…I AM NOT

  4. Many times this is a ruse to open up a freedom of speech lawsuit. The schools have the perfect defense, since they already dictate what students can and can not wear and how they groom their hair. This division is unnecessary and most likely controlled by a hate filled parent acting out through his kid. Imagine that–an adult parent–acting out—something we reserve in tolerance for two year old babies!!

  5. This happened because the parents of these racists are racists. They listen to FOX, Limbaugh and these other right wing fanatical lying Republican television and radio stations which spew nothing but hate and racism.

  6. I haven't heard of no stankin white boys getting shot. ijs

  7. these are children being taught hate in their homes. remember this happened at a high school… we should pity them while teaching our children to be better. not by perpetrating violence and hatred toward kids.

  8. Confederate flag is not a traitorous flag. As any state that join the Union can leave the Union.
Confederate flag is to be free of government control. You are control only by your state.
Union flag is to be control by the government above all others.

Slave part played a roll in it but don't forget most whites didn't have slaves. So the main part of the flag is to be free that is the true meaning behind the Confederate flag to be free from government control.

Maryland is a southern state so can be people showing there pride of being southern and wanting to be free but lets get for real i dont believe that one 😀

The Gadsden Flag "DON'T TREAD ON ME" flag would have been a better pick. Means the same thing as the Confederate flag to be free from government control but without the southern or slave part. It is a USA war flag use against the King of Britain.

It stands for personal freedoms and liberties, and is a message to anyone that tries to take them away. And is still used to this day by the US Navy

  10. Maat Ta'Meri and it can go the other way around to black's teaching there kids to hate whites and whites are to blame for everything. My family never taught me to hate or dislike blacks but when ur beat up by only blacks picked on by only blacks then u learn fast to distrust blacks. And with that mind set it only get worst as one gets older and harder to change one view point. My kid loves everyone does not care for race. I'm bring her up the same way i was but if she is bully by only one race she well learn fast like many before to distrust that race whoever it may be 😀 So one cant just blame "whites" one much blame "blacks" hate only needs 1 side to feed it before it jumps to the next ship.
