CNN’s Don Lemon is back from reporting in Ferguson, MO and now he’s taking up the issue of religion. During a segment where Lemon discussed terror group ISIS, the reporter questioned how Islam stacks up against other religions.
“Is Islam more violent than any other faith?” Lemon asked his panelists. Author Tawfik Hamid said “other religions” also have verses that can lead to viοlence if interpreted literally.
“Yes, it must be, otherwise how could all these groups take the name of Islam to become viοlent and do what they do?” answered former FBI Assistant Director Tom Fuentes.
“By saying that Islam is more violent than any other religion, it doesn’t mean that other religions aren’t violent,” Lemon added. “We’re talking about history and the reality here. If you’re looking at the bombing of abοrtion clinics, you’re not looking at the numbers of a 9/11, you’re not looking at the numbers of a Boko Haram, you’re not looking at the many people who are kιlled from ISIS and beheαded.”
The conversation over Islam has been renewed now that ISIS has beheαded journalists Steve Sotloff and James Foley.
“Our objective is clear, and that is: degrade and destroy ISIL so that it’s no longer a threat, not just to Iraq but also to the region and to the United States,” President Obama said after Sotloff’s mυrder. “It’s not only that we’re going to be bringing to justice those who perpetrated this terrible crime against these two fine young men.”
“We will not be intimidated,” the president added. “Their horrific acts only unite us as a country and stiffen our resolve to take the fight against these terrorists.”
President Obama made his comments while attending a NATO summit on Wednesday. He has reportedly been working to build an alliance against ISIS while meeting with world leaders.
