BreakingBrown.com: 21 reasons white people should care about the Ferguson Protests

by Melissa Cordner

If I hear one more person claim the people of Ferguson are “just playing the race card,” I am going to scream. If one more person tells me to calm down because Ferguson “doesn’t affect me,” I am going to scream. The truth, of course, is that we’ve all been screaming for ten days… or for hundreds of years.

WHITE PEOPLE—THIS AFFECTS YOU. White people—I care because I, as an American citizen, CANNOT afford not to. White people—you cannot afford not to care either. Here are some reasons why white people need to educate themselves about, and get involved with, what is going on in Ferguson. Each of these points affects you—your community, your government, your media, your country, your life. Your continued silence on each of these issues implies your continued compliance with them.

  1. The basics: an UNARMED TEENAGER was shot six times by a police officer. This is a problem no matter what color or nationality or sex or religion or sexual orientation or what-have-you the teenager was. This would also be a problem no matter the age of the person, but the fact the victim was eighteen and starting college within a week adds a particular type of horror to the situation.

  1. What does pulling up there pants have to do with their right to life. I too agree our youth need to respect themselves and others by not showing their behinds but than so do plumbers and any one else showing their crake's to t public but again it's no reason to be killed. How do we really know it was Michael Brown in t tape n if it were him he shouldn't be killed for shop lifting not that this is an acceptable behavior but how do we know what lead to shopkeeper being jacked up. For Jessie Jackson these youth are to young to know what he has done in past what they see is t present they see themselves being killed by other blacks n the white system n Justice is not servicing being served by n to them. Jessie Al n no other so called media leaders seem to be addressing their Concerns. Our youth are daily becoming Mental n Emotionally unhealthy because of the racist society in which they live . Stop name calling and allowing others to name call imprison n kill our babies Stand Up

  2. There is a war on Afro Americans male and female. Do you have to die to recognize that. The U.S. has declared war on you. It seems that our brain is locked up. You are afraid to protect even your own. OK, who is next. We crowd the streets for two weeks then we go home and for get about it. They know that's what you will do. It has been repeated so many times. They know you better than you know yourselves.
