Will Credit Counseling Hurt My Credit Rating?

Lynette Khalfani-Cοx is known as The Money Coach.  She is a personal finance expert who dispenses her knowledge and advice through television, radio, and books.  She wrote the New York Times bestseller Zero Debt: The Ultimate Guide to Financial Freedom.

Her personal story inspires many to pursue financial solvency and freedom and shows that she does not just dispense financial advice, she also lives it.  After amassing $100,000 in credit card debt, the money coach was able to turn her financial life around by being disciplined enough to pay the debt off in just three short years.

Lynette began her career as a journalist and eventually became a Wall Street Journal reporter for CNBC.  Khalfani-Cox has been dispensing her advice as The Money Coach since 2003 when she created an independent publishing company named Advantage World Press.

She has published a total of six personal finance books for adults as well as co-authored a series of money-management books for young people.  One of her books is the useful  Perfect Credit: 7 Steps to a Great Credit Rating, in which she discusses how the average consumer can boos their FICO score.

She has also appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Dr. Phil, The Tyra Banks Show, and Good Morning America.  Much of the advice she has given on these and other shows can be found on her website TheMoneyCoach.net where she offers books, e-books, digital content, videos, and other resources.

Lynette travels the country giving motivational speeches and financial seminars.  She also is on the board of directors for WorldofMoney.org, a non profit agency whose mission is to teach financial literacy skills to underprivileged teenagers.

Her work has earned her the Dow Jones International News Award in 1996 and 1998 for her reporting on financial markets as well as an Excellence in Financial Literacy Education (EIFLE) Award for her work on The Millionaire Kids Club.  The first three books in the series were recognized as Retail Book of the Year in the money-management books for children category.

Many people consider taking credit counseling classes to learn how to keep their credit from falling back into shambles once it has been repaired.  In the following video, Khalfani-Cox addresses the impact credit counseling can have on a person’s credit score and when counseling is ideal.
