Is chasing a thug good for your love life?

Post By RelatedRelated Post

The media plays a huge role in determining what we want out of our lives and out of our relationships.  Black people are fed specific imagery that sometimes glorifies thugs and athletes over regular, hard-working men, and there are some who feel that these messages are harmful to young women seeking mates.

But is it natural for a woman to chase after a man who seems “dangerous” and “edgy?”  If that relationship goes wrong and her “personal thug” harms her in some way, should we then feel no sympathy for that woman?

Financial Lovemaking is all about making investments in your life that are going to lead to solid long-term outcomes.  These are not just investments in money.  It also includes investments in your personal life and the choices you make.  A woman who invests in the wrong man can end up bankrupt, dead or unhappy as a result of not choosing the right fit for her life.  The same is true for men who focus on a woman’s looks and not her character.

In this video, Dr. Boyce Watkins and S. Tia Brown from Ebony Magazine discuss the case of Jeremy Meeks, the “sexy thug” whose mugshot went viral.  After Meeks’ mugshot hit the Internet, his family was able to collect thousands in donations from women around the globe who wanted to see him given a chance to be a free man.  He was also offered modeling contracts for as much as $30,000 per month.

But the courts may not be so kind to Meeks.  He is facing over a dozen felonies and this could lead to him being behind bars for quite some time.
