Investigators pursuing criminals normally have an arduous task ahead of them. There are gang bustleads to be followed up on, witnesses to be interviewed, and even surveillance video to be reviewed. But a recent gang bust by the NYPD that netted 103 arrests was made at least somewhat easier due to the fact that a few of the alleged gang bangers openly admitted their crimes on Facebook.

In a powerful show of police force, 500 NYPD officers entered two Harlem housing projects and arrested 103 suspected gang members in one of the largest gang busts in history. A four year investigation led to the bust, where suspects were arrested for at least two mυrders and 50 shoοtings, but Vice reports that social media played an enormous role in the arrests.

The word “Facebook” comes up 162 times in the first indictment, demonstrating just how important the social media platform was in nabbing the suspected gangsters.

This post from one suspect further demonstrates how the alleged gang members incriminated themselves on social media:

“3Staccs we ain playing games wit dese n**gas locked up we goin bring the pain to these n*ggas letting off shots I got aim for these n**gas heashοts ima leave a stain in u n**gas… if you want beef we emptying dem clips running from the D’s and my team movin quick”

“I clapped at your man salendine them tnd n*ggas them nd the m.a. n**gas on 25th and 7th last weekend”

“Dis Mike Slimes nicca gotta dιe. Money ave kιller sending bullets to they liver!”

“Once we take down one from your block, we’ll be good”

“F*ck Manhattanville, someone is going to die tonight.”

“Got a man down.”

It seems as if this person may’ve been using his real life crimes in rap lyrics, but putting them on social media helped give police the evidence they needed to complete their investigation and make over 100 arrests.
