A Toronto couple thought they were the luckiest people in the world when they won $50 million dollars in the lottery. According to The Toronto Sun, Hakeem Nosiru was so elated that he ran through a convenience store jumping for joy once he learned he’d hit the jackpot.
Unfortunately for Hakeem and his wife, Abiola, their big moment wouldn’t last long.
Initially, Hakeem was so protective over theticket that he put it in an envelope and taped it to himself to avoid losing it. Soon, though, he gave it to his wife to guard and that’s when it went missing.
Nosiru says he and his wife went to church and after they returned home, the lotto ticket was gone.
“I couldn’t sleep for days, I couldn’t eat. I was devastated,” Abiola said.
Hakeem says he wasn’t angry at his wife when he learned the ticket was missing because he decided that whatever happened was God’s will.
“God gave us the money,” he said.
Months went by before someone at the couple’s church called to say they’d found the ticket.
“We lose the ticket and eventually we found it. Thank God for that,” Hakeem said.
Abiola was elated.
“When I found it I was so happy,” she said.
The couple says they don’t know how they will spend the money but they’re just happy to have it back.
“We believed that before the money there was a life,” she said. “After the money there would be a life.”
The couple did say they plan to relax with their children and grandchildren.
