Aaliyah on Star Search at the age of 10: But she looks like an adult

Aaliyah is one of the most beloved singers in the history of R&B music.  She died tragically in the year 2001 in a plane crash, but was on her way to fame, fortune and stardom.  Scratch that:  She was already there, with movie roles, hit songs and a loyal legion of fans who all looked up to her and wanted to be just like her.

This is an old clip of Aaliyah and how she got her start on Star Search.  Of course her voice is angelic and her performance is highly polished.  In fact, you could say that her first appearance on Star Search is better than the one registered by Beyonce Knowles.

The 10 year old has her hair done to a tee and a beautiful white dress, and you have to wonder if she looks a little older than the age of 10.   Not that she’s dressed inappropriately, but it does appear that she has makeup on and the hairstyle of an older woman.  The clip was taken in 1989.

Looking old for her age might not have helped her five years down the road when the singer was dating R. Kelly, who was over the age of 30 at the time.  Maybe sometimes, fame and fortune can make our kids grow up a little bit too fast.  Were Aaliyah’s parents protecting her from the trappings of the music industry?

What do you think?   Should there be a limit on how a young girl appears at the age of 10, or does none of this matter?

Watch the clip and give us your take.

I honestly don't see it. She looks like her mom let her wear a little lip gloss and some blush. Have you seen those little white beauty pageant contestants that look like Vegas show girls? This is nothing compared to that.

What makes her look older than her years is her wonderfully mature interpretation of that song. She and Michael Jackson could interpret mature lyrics far beyond their years. That's a GOD-given talent!

If you went to church back in the 80’s, that was the way the little girls looked. The hair and dress, just looks like another kid. She does not look like any adult that I’ve seen. Sad that in just 4 short years, she married R. Kelly.

What are you talking about? She looks 10. She's covered head-to-toe. Her performance is mature, yet cute. Is this supposed to be an undercut to suggest something else? That comment sounds like something a pedophile would say.

I used to like getting email alerts saying you guys had published a new article, but now I wonder who works for you guys. Seriously this is getting annoying, your articles are mainly about racisim, celebrity gossip, and black folks going to jail.

My last pay check was $9500 working 12 hours a week online. My sisters friend has been averaging 15k for months now and she works about 20 hours a week. I can't believe how easy it was once I tried it out. This is what I do,

She was very talented and professional but who ever picked out that dress and put all of that makeup on her need a good whopping. This was a talent contest not a beauty contest.

Michael Jackson is without a doubt the king. Whenever i listen to his records i feel like he is still alive. Surely one of the most significant music celebrities ever been born!
