Michael Jace, who is a well-known actor on “The Shield,” was charged with the murder on Thursday, May 22nd. He has asked that his arraignment be postponed until June 18th.
As previously reported, on May 19th, Jace called 911 and told them that he’d shot his wife and needed their assistance. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Their two children, both under the ages of 10, were in the home at the time of the shooting. It is unclear as to whether or not they had actually seen anything.
The motive for the killing is still unknown. Jace’s financial records show that he has been facing financial hardship lately, leading officials to wonder if perhaps that made him snap and kill his wife. The police had no previous calls to this house for domestic violence. Jace had filed for bankruptcy in 2011 and was still having troubles as of December of 2013.
The bail for Jace is currently set at $2 million. The murder charge, if convicted, could earn Jace 50 years-to-life in prison. His wife, April Jace, was found dead in the hallway at the scene. She had been shot multiple times. She was a financial aid counselor at a nearby school.
The children have been placed safely with relatives at this time. Jace’s attorney stated that the actor was thinking about the children and had no other comment on the incident at this time. The actor has been cooperative with investigators so far.
Other than having a major role on “The Shield,” Jace has been in a few other roles in crime dramas. He was on “Southland” for a short time and also played small roles in Boogie Nights, Forrest Gump, and Planet of the Apes.
