Keisha Haith (left), Kasii Haith (right)
Reported by Krystle Crossman
Four-year-old Kasii Haith lost his life on Wednesday when he was left alone with three pit bulls. Keisha Haith, the boy’s 24-year-old pregnant mother, was also injured in the attack. Haith and Kasii were visiting with a friend in Kent County, DE. The boy was playing outside in the yard where there were three pit bulls. When Keisha looked out the window, she saw the dogs attacking her son. She suffered multiple injuries to her arms from the dogs’ teeth as she tried to pull them away. Two repairmen that were working at the house at the time rushed to help her as well. By the time they got to Kasii, it was too late.
An autopsy will be conducted on the boy to find out the exact cause of death. His mother was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for her injuries and also put under observation due to her pregnancy. She told the police that her son had been around these dogs many times before without incident. The dogs are now under the possession of the Delaware Animal Care and Control. All three will be euthanized. They are also going to be testing their remains for any signs of rabies. The dogs had not been spayed, neutered, or vaccinated.
Sadly, this is not the first small child to be attacked and killed by dogs. A five-year-old in LA was killed in early April when he was outside playing with his brother. The pit bull was owned by a neighbor and was on the loose. The boy’s brother tried to pull the dog off of him but when he couldn’t, he ran to his father for help. The dog, in this case, was not immediately put down and no charges were filed. They did conduct an investigation.
