Kelly Price is a Grammy nominated R&B singer-songwriter. She has been nominated for a total of 7 Grammy Awards. She got her start in the music industry after being discovered by Mariah Carey who introduced Price to her then husband Tommy Mottola. Price sung backup vocals for the likes of Faith Evans, Aretha Franklin, Brian McKninght, SWV, and R.Kelly.
Her first solo album was Soul of a Woman which came out in 1998. Her hit song from that album was, “Friend of Mine,” which hit No. 1 on the U.S. R&B chart. The song made history by reaching that position without having a music video to promote it.
Her second album was Mirror Mirror in 2000. She received a Grammy nomination for her cover of the Shirley Murdock song As We Lay. Price’s next album was a live gospel recording entitled This Is Who I Am, which was released in 2006.
Price’s latest album is Sing Pray Love! which she talks about in the following video clip. The title is based on the popular book and movie titled Eat Pray Love.
Price also discusses her recent short lived stint on the reality TV show R&B Divas: L.A. Price did not complete the filming after turmoil ensued with her fellow cast mates. Price reflects back on the experience as a bad moment in her career. However, she does not regret the experience because she says that she learned valuable lessons about people and about the music industry. She also discusses her years long battle with weight and what she has done to maintain her 100 pound weight loss.
