Fox News host Tucker Carlson has come to the conclusion that poor people are overweight and rich people thin and healthy. He states that people who do not have a lot of money cannot afford to eat healthy food; and therefore, they are larger in size than those who can afford to eat well. Harris Faulkner of Out Numbered cited a studied that showed that people who were unemployed were more likely to be gain weight while they were not working.
Carlson mentioned First Lady Michelle Obama’s fitness campaign named “Let’s Move” that is trying to encourage people to get more exercise and get fit. He states that her husband should be starting a campaign that is called “Let’s Move with Jobs” in regards to the high unemployment rate in the country. He says if nothing else, the amount of people that are poor and overweight shows that there is a great abundance of something in this country.
When Carlson says that there is an abundance of something Faulker seems confused. Carlson goes on to explain that for a long time, people who were poor went with nothing to eat and ended up starving. But now that we have so much processed food, there is no shortage of cheap foods to eat. Unfortunately, most of those cheap foods are not good at all for your body and people who have to eat these processed foods gain a significant amount of weight. Carlson stated that he doesn’t recall ever being in an area that is populated with rich people and there was an obese person present. He feels that this is the case because they can afford the organically grown vegetables and fruits. They can afford to cook healthy meals or hire someone to cook for them. Many who are poor do not have those luxuries.
