BET has announced that it is bringing its once popular comedy show, “Comic View,” back to the airwaves.  The announcement was made during the networks annual Upfront presentation.  Upfront is an event where television networks unveil their upcoming programming to the media.

The show originally ran from September 1992 to December 2008, and the show has served as a launching pad for such comedians as D.L. Hughley and Cedric the Entertainer.  The show’s format is set up to air for an hour and features different stand up acts by up and coming comedians.  The show is usually hosted by a more established comedian.

Madame Noir is reporting that veteran comic Sommore is set to host the new version of the show which will be taped in Atlanta.  BET currently tapes many of its other hit shows in Atlanta including The Game, Sunday Best, and Being Mary Jane..  She has hosted the show in the past and is one of the original, “Queens of Comedy.”  Sommore is one of three female comics to have hosted the show.  Sommore hosted from 1994-1995; Montana Taylor hosted from 1996-1007, and Sheryl Underwood hosted from 2006-2007.  BET is hoping she will help introduce a new generation of comics to fans while resurrecting a show that once drew large numbers of viewers to BET’s network

It is reported that the show has already began taping sometime last year, and the first episode is set to air May 2014.  The show is set to air six nights a week which is more than the original two nights a week that it aired during its first run.  Many fans are excited about the shows return.  The jokes that appear on Comic View often become conversation pieces the following day.  Here’s to hoping the show is able to reclaim the success it enjoyed for so many years by bringing laughs and smiles to millions.
