If you were to ask most people around the world as little as five years ago who the King of Pop was, they would most likely have told you that person was Michael Jackson. However, if you ask people around the world that now, given they are privy to the information with regard to Jackson’s death; you might be surprised by the answers.
Since his death, there have been several celebrities who could be the next King or Queen, but there is one in particular, who in terms of world popularity is an obvious front-runner. That person whether you agree with her views or not, is Lady Gaga. Outside of her 125 million albums sold, the singer regularly does things to push the envelope, much like Jackson used to. Lady Gaga’s most recent stunt actually includes the King of Pop, himself, or his likeness rather.
Lady Gaga who has made a name for herself with her controversial videos is not changing it up (this one is just as, if not more controversial). Her third single off the album ARTPOP, “G.U.Y” is 11 minutes long, and she dances throughout in an array of elaborate outfits, as reported by The Grio. In the song, she makes a list of pop culture references. And of course, you cannot do that without addressing Michael Jackson.
Towards the middle of the video, Lady Gaga is depicted in a futuristic tomb alongside her deceased idols: Mahatma Gandhi, Michael Jackson and Jesus Christ. The singer has never seemed to fear the topic of religion in her music. Some might argue that this newest video is actually sacrilegious.
