Which way will Rihanna go? A straight reggae album, the surprised release route (Beyonce style), or using extreme sex, but with the idea of normalizing female sexuality route? America waits and wants to know! Rihanna’s last album, Unapologetic came out in November 2012. The star hasn’t gone a year without releasing new music since 2007, so it would not be a major surprise to get a new Rihanna album in 2014-and MTV is already calling it a “most anticipated pop album of the year.”
Several directions and routes have been thrown around as many try to predict RiRi’s next move for her 8th album. Some have reason to believe she will take the Roc Nation route. Rihanna just dropped a new single with fellow Roc Nation management artist Shakira and since Roc Nation label and management signee DJ Mustard said he’s been working on a new album with her. The collaboration of artist from the pool include: Calvin Harris, J.Cole on a verse, Meek Mill on a verse, a Haim remix, and some kind of crazy, sexy, over the top Kylie Minogue track. Other potential partners in the Roc Nation include Switch (Major Lazer, Beyonce, M.I.A.); Kuk Harrell, a long time RiRi vocal producer (Justin Bieber, Usher, Mary J. Blige); and No I.D. (Kanye West’s production mentor, Common, Jay Z).
Direction number two, that RiRi might go and would delight a lot of men, is the using extreme sex, but with the idea of normalizing female sexuality route. Rihanna known for not giving a F, has brought us major club hits. On her, “Pour it up,“ album cover she is topless going to the strip club. Rihanna is one to take the sexuality lead and role and see how far she can go with her own sexuality.
Maybe a surprise release route! It can reap juices in her sales and she would need a killer first sales week. But at the same time, Rihanna has been getting those Beyonce comparisons since the moment she came on the scene. If she does do it this way, she will be in for even more unwanted comparisons.
Another direction is, taking it to the house route: straight reggae man! The Barbados native experimented with the reggae style on Rated R’s “Rude Boy’ and Talk That Talk’s, “You Da One.” This would be a massive change in her style that is unlikely, but the beauty could get her reggae party on all day, while still keeping her image and her style.
The last route of choice might be that of Watch the Throne 2. Jay Z and Kanye West did an amazing job on the first one, it won BET’s Hip Hop award for CD of the Year. Kanye and Rihanna on “All of the Lights,” was amazing. The collaboration could be awesome with RiRi singing the dirty parts and the vocals and Kanye being Kanye.
