When Oprah Winfrey stepped out and created OWN, there were many naysayers. Let’s face it – to create your own network is difficult, no matter who you are. With all of her accomplishments and money at her disposal, the question many people probably asked Oprah is why do this? However, anyone who knows Oprah and follows her will conclude that she is a pioneer and accepts challenges that will stretch her.
Every year in the month of February, Black History is celebrated all over the United States. During this month, we embrace accomplishments from the many brothers and sisters who have made and are making a difference.
OWN can add something to the records. The month of February delivered the most-watched month in the network’s history in primetime. On Tuesday, the cable channel announced that there were 538,000 total viewers.
“OWN’s prime average in the key W25-54 demo marked a six-month high, up +11% versus January and up a whopping +86% versus one year ago. This makes OWN the fastest-growing cable network for W25-54 versus a year ago,” eurweb.com reports.
Tyler’s Perry’s ‘The Haves and the Have Nots’ has helped OWN jumped to the forefront. The Haves and the Have Nots is the number #1 show watched on Tuesday nights and the #1 original show for African-Americans. In addition to The Have and the Have Nots, OWN also features the comedy series, ‘Love Thy Neighbor.’ The show is the #1 cable show for African-Americans on Wednesday nights.
According to eurweb.com, “The second season of reality series ‘Raising Whitley,’ following actress/comedienne Kym Whitley, and new reality show ‘Mom’s Got Game,’ following former WNBA player Pamela McGee and her son, Denver Nuggets center JaVale McGee, are Saturday night’s top two original series on all of television for African-American W25-54.”
Remember to watch OWN to keep the record-breaking success. Don’t simply talk about OWN’s success; be a part of it and share the information with others.
