DeAndre Cortez Way, better known as Soulja Boy, has tweeted that he will be going to jail in 5 days.
“5 more days until I go to jail. Appreciate everyone who was there for me while I needed y’all,” according to his twitter feed on February 15.
The 23 year old rapper was pulled over in January for running a stop sign stated by multiple sources. When he was pulled over, the authorities found a loaded gun in the car, however Soulja Boy’s manager stated that Soulja Boy was not aware of the loaded gun being in the car.
Soulja Boy talked about his arrest in an interview with DJ Whoo Kid in January. He feels like he was targeted by the police because of his success and age.
“It’s just being young and being successful,” referring to most recent arrest. “I feel like if I was a regular person, it wouldn’t get promoted in the media. Me and Bieber we were just chilling. We just young and having fun. They pulled over the Bentley, they pulled over the Ferrari. Why are they pulling us over in the first place? We just gone deal with it. All my fans that’s been rocking with me through everything I salute to y’all and appreciate the support.”
The Atlanta’s rapper has had several run-ins with the law including the 2011 arrest for felony gun and drug charges. Even before that, he was put in jail for the obstruction of justice in October 2009.
Soulja Boy contributed to the “We made it (Remix)”, his newest song with Drake released back in December. This recent arrest has derailed his involvements in the industry for a while. It is unknown of how long he has been sentenced to prison or where he will be serving his time.
Soulja Boy realizing that because he is a famous rapper, it attracts attention to his actions and character. In the interview with DJ Whoo Kid he referenced his perceived status by saying that his recent arrest would not have been public; if he was a “regular person” nevertheless does that justify his behavior?
