Earvin” Magic” Johnson set records clear on his HIV diagnosis after years of talk about his progressive health. Johnson, a former basketball star was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS virus back in 1991. This made headlines and brought on a lot of attention to the heterosexual infection tendencies.
“I do have it and have had it for 22 years. It’s just laying asleep in my body,” said Johnson with his interview with Renada Romain of Sirius XM.
Soon after the diagnosis, one of the greatest sports figures retired, and started to venture into the business sector while being an advocate for HIV/AIDS.
Johnson has continually looked healthy causing the public to question his diagnosis. Most people have formed the picture of death and sickness around the diagnosis in which is not the case if early detected.
Johnson explained to Sirius XM’s HipHopNation, that he has not been cured of the virus via some magic juju, according to TMZ. He went on to explain that the virus does affect each individual differently and he has been fortunate to live as long as he has with the diagnosis.
“The virus acts different in everybody…so just because I’m doing well, you might NOT do well,” he told Romain.
He also explained that his wealth has not contributed to his successful longevity. He takes the same 30 something drugs to fight the virus like other individuals that have been diagnosed with the HIV virus. The idea of going to witch doctors or Mexican healers is just a myth that has not cured his diagnosis.
Johnson has accepted his diagnosis; and he has become a distinguished advocate for the prevention of HIV infections in the society. He has been recognizing the Black HIV/AIDS awareness month; therefore, he wanted to be on the record saying that he does not have a magic cure for the HIV infection.
