So the news is in – platinum recording artist Beyoncé was supposed to receive the role of Disney’s first-ever Black princess. The only problem, they call her Queen B, not Princess B, and when she was asked to audition, she illustrated exactly what that means. She did not audition and therefore she did not receive the role.
The actress came out on top for the role of princess, despite so many big names fighting for the spot, according to film casting director Jen Rudin. The movie is the animated hit “The Princess and the Frog.” Though Beyoncé originally accepted the offer to play the part, she declined the request to audition. Rudin reveals the interesting details in a tell-all book.
“Beyoncé expected an offer, but wouldn’t audition and so she didn’t get one,” said Rudin in the tell-all. She further explains the plights of several other actors who were interested in the part. Rudin says that Alicia Keys “auditioned three times.” She also said that Tyra Banks came in with a CD of herself singing. Jennifer Hudson did what she could too, to get the role. All fell short.
The new princess is Anika Noni Rose.
It is unclear with regard to how Beyoncé took the news of her losing the part of the animated princess because of her failure to audition, but the singer did make her animation debut already this year in the movie Epic. Also, Hudson who has won an Oscar, and Keys collaborated on the indie drama The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete earlier this year, as reported by BET.com
