Cory Booker’s Opponent Seems to Think He’s Gay: Cory Won’t Answer the Question

Post By RelatedRelated Post

The senate race in the state of New Jersey is getting interesting and ugly.  One of the latest oddities that have come up is the allegation that Democratic candidate Cory Booker is gay.   Booker was asked this question by the Washington Post, who may be wondering why he refuses to come out of the closet.  His response was simple, “so what does it matter if I am?”

But that is not the full response, at least not the one that conservatives are passing around the Internet.  Here is the entirety of what Booker had to say:

“Because how unfair is it to a young lady to put them in the spotlight if they haven’t signed up for that yet?” he says. “And people who think I’m gay, some part of me thinks it’s wonderful. Because I want to challenge people on their homophobia. I love seeing on Twitter when someone says I’m gay, and I say, ‘So what does it matter if I am? So be it. I hope you are not voting for me because you are making the presumption that I’m straight.’ ”

These remarks have been food for thought and attack by Booker’s opponent, Steve Lonegan.  Steve thinks its odd that Booker refuses to address the question directly.  When asked by fellow right winger Steve Malzberg what he thought about Booker’s response, Lonegan said, “It’s kind of weird. As a guy, I personally like being a guy. I don’t know if you saw the stories last year. They’ve been out for quite a bit about how he likes to go out at three o’clock in the morning for a manicure and a pedicure.”

Lonegan speculated that Booker was being ambiguous to attract gay voters.  He also seems to be implying that Booker might be a gay man himself.  So, Lonegan marketed himself in the most direct way, by stating that he is a “man’s man” in every way:

“I don’t like going out in the middle of the night, or any time of the day, for a manicure and pedicure. It was described as his peculiar fetish. I have a more peculiar fetish. I like a good Scotch and a cigar. That’s my fetish but we’ll just compare the two.”

  1. Oh please-Cory Booker is gay? big deal…He is a hard working african american-Good for him and his constituents…..Will they say Obama is gay for supporting the gay cause…Time for the world to grow up and act responsibly in thought and actions..

  2. So what, if he’s gay. He’s a good guy with his heart in the right place for his community. If that is the only challenge he has from his opponent, the opponent is in deep deep trouble.
I like Corey Booker. I hope he wins.

  4. Are any of you old enough to remember what white people were called during the Civil Rights Movement? “N^#$*r Lovers”…and that did not stop them from supporting the cause. I am just saying….

  5. New Jersey residents please don't vote for a candidate who would ask someone if they are gay, and to try to make fun of someone whether they are gay or not.Is he intimating he would be a better senator because he smokes and drinks. He really said that, are people going stark raving mad?

  6. Just because someone doesn’t marry or have kids doesn’t mean they’re gay LOL! Even if he is, what difference would it make!!! What Cory does in his bedroom is his business and not outs.

  7. Butch, tell them baby!

  8. When your political opponent resorts to speculations about your sexual orientation, then you know he’s desparate and doesn’t have any real platform to run on.

  9. Corey is not gay!! Just because he does not want his business out does not mean he is gay!! Some of us do not want other people in our bedroom, at the end of the day we still need our privacy and a sense of being a person and not a news story. But again Corey is not gay!!!!

  10. Oh yeah one more thing I would not F with him thinking he is a “punk” cause you will get f -up and I have his back if he doesn’t get you I will cap that azz. Hell has no fury like a lioness protect her lion.

  12. Mr. Booker is a very dynamic man. He respects people from who they are. It doesn’t bother him when ‘certain’ people who would like to bring him down. It is not going to happen.

  13. Are most of these negroes in politics taking it in the rear end?

  14. Yuck! Don't vote for Booker's opponent: he smokes nasty old cigars. Now THAT is offensive. And will kill him.

  15. Please – people are so over people's sexual idenities. Who cares either way? This is 2013. The thought that this would be a reason not to vote for him is an absurdity.

  16. Corey is a winner; he choose to become a politian, and by the looks of things he’s doing his thing. As for how he gets stimulated, that’s his choice; the tactic of dating Oprah friend Gail (for public sake) need to cease, to curtail others thought of his particular choice of companionship.

  17. Funny..but I know a lot of gays that like Scotch and cigars too

  18. Right on Wanda

  19. The guy is quite wonderful, so he should be judged on thay!

  20. This is so stupid I have to joke about it. It isn't even news anymore, whatever the answer. Well, here goes: Lonegan says he's a "man's man." Is that a less-than-ambiguous reference to his own sexuality? After all, most of the Senators and Representatives who have been outed cruising in public bathrooms are Republicans. Really–who cares!

  21. Who gives a shit if he's gay!!? What does him being gay have to do with his work? Mind ya business!! If you're voting the VOTE!! If not sit Down and shut the hell up!!!

  23. He's not actually gay.

  24. @ Phionix I was about to say something crazy until I read your post. lol I’m a mom 2 and would fight to the death 4 mine. Good luck Mr.Booker

  25. I’m not worried about his sexual preference, even though the texting drama with the stripper wanting to be his wife was a political stunt to hide his sexual preference to begin with.

What bothers me is his politics. He’s a corporatist through and through and not as progressive as many think. I remember when he was a surrogate for the President briefly during the ’08 and his true colors showed when he attacked the President for attacking Romney with Bain Capital links.

After that sharp criticism, he wasn’t used anymore as a surrogate. So if you actually think he’s going to do the people’s will in Congress as a Senator, you’re sadly mistaken. In his book Corporations are People too.

  26. P.S. I think this blog is a little over the top censoring the word s e x u a l….

  27. What has the sexuality of Booker got to do with what he will offer? Homophobia is still alive, and using it as a tool is cheap and ugly.

  28. He answered ur just not smart enough to except his answer
