After Lee Daniels made a plea to Warner Bros to allow him to keep his new film title as ‘the butler’, the results are in and Warner Bros have declined his appeal. Which means, our favorite Director who’s responsible for heartfelt films like Precious, Shadow Boxer, The Paperboy, and the ‘The Butler” has to make a name change to his film immediately. I wonder what new name will this film have? considering the film has been named, advertised, and has a release date for Aug 2013; how does this affect the film?

“Attorneys for Warner Brothers yesterday sent a letter to TWC counsel David Boies in response to director Lee Daniels’ personal appeal to WB to back down on its demand for a title change. In the letter, WB attorney John Spiegel stands firm, calling TWC’s ‘cries of unfairness and its threats to sue Warner unproductive and unwarranted’. Sources tell Deadline that Daniels received a personal response from CEO Kevin Tsujihara yesterday.”

The Weinstein Company seems to have the moral high ground on this one. It’s real petty for Warner Brothers to go after Lee’s The Butler when their short film of the same name never made it to theater, TV, or DVD.
