I thought WILL.I.AM and Pharrell Williams were cool. They are both great producers. These producers have been responsible for creating some great musical hits. Pharrell has made the mistake of naming his clothing line too similar to Will.I.Am’s stage name. I’m assuming Will.I.Am and Pharrell doesn’t have that call/ text relationship-where a simple phone call could have resolved the issue. This situation will be handled in court because Will.I.Am filed a lawsuit against Pharrell.
Black Eyed Peas frontman, Will.i.am, has reportedly taken legal action against Pharrell Williams, specifically, regarding his creative brand “i am OTHER.”
According to Rolling Stone, Will has filed a lawsuit against Pharrell’s brand for copyright infringement, claiming its logo is “confusingly similar” to the rapper/producer’s stage name, which also includes lowercase “i am.”
“The registration of the mark… is likely to dilute the I AM mark and the WILL.I.AM mark,” reads documents.
Pharrell’s lawyers have since filed a response, denying all such claims, while Pharrell tells Rolling Stone he’s disappointed by the entire thing.
“I am disappointed that Will, a fellow artist, would file a case against me,” he said. “I am someone who likes to talk things out and, in fact, I attempted to do just that on many occasions. I am surprised in how this is being handled and I am confident that Will’s trademark claims will ultimately be found to be as meritless and ridiculous as I do.”
