Left eye’s family is a little hurt that T-Boz and Chilli did a remix to Waterfalls and they didn’t include Left eye in the song. However, T-Boz and Chilli are standing firm in their decision and letting Left eye’s family and fans know that Left Eye could never be replaced; however when the opportunity presented itself-they had to find another alternative. I mean, I truly feel that Left-Eye’s family have to get a grip. Left-Eye isn’t here to record music. It really seems like a silly fight.
Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes’ family is making a case that the remaining TLC members T-Boz and Chili were less than respectful in their decision to drop “Left Eye” from the remix of their most popular song “Waterfalls”. It turned out however, that T-Boz and Chili may have been forced to record the remix with Japanese pop star Namie Amuro because Lopes’ family were not!
As the remix grew in popularity, Left Eye’s sister Reigndrop revealed she first heard the remix online. According to E! Online,
“I did not know about it until a fan posted it online,” Left-Eye’s sister Reigndrop Lopes told TMZ, noting that her mother was hurt as well. “I mean, it would have been nice if they would have given us a heads up before being surprised.”
But Reigndrop added, so long as the song is just released in Japan, then she’s OK with it. Meanwhile, the revamped tune has been yanked from YouTube, where it was labeled “20th Anniversary Version—Japan Edition.”
Nearly a week later and a barrage of criticism from social media, Chili revealed attempts were made to reach Lopes’ family.
Chili tells TMZ, “We were forced to use a creative way to honor Lisa’s memory and celebrate this milestone with the fans.”
TLC also says they reached out to Ron Lopes — Lisa’s brother — before releasing the track.
TLC adds, “We have and always will protect our sister’s legacy as TLC consists of the three of us collectively … there will never be a replacement for Lisa or any members in TLC.”
While Chili said her peace to the gossip site, T-Boz saved hers for one Twitter user in particular.
@Tupacaveli u don’t know what ur talkin about bless your heart you’ll see soon enough it’s in Lisa’s words its a Tribute to her not replaced
@Tupacaveli plus this is the Japan’s homage 2 her y’all better learn… we’re not allowed 2 play Lisa’s version we weren’t allowed the rights
@Tupacaveli oh we know the truth u lil birdies just wait you’ll see. The family WAS told boom
It is unclear what the legal restrictions are around the use of the record, but the bigger question remains, when will adults take their issues off social media?!
