If you didn’t think that Roc Nation was serious, you better ask somebody. It’s been reported that just two months after being born, the company run by Jay-Z is going to be signing NBA star Kevin Durant to its roster of superstars.
This is right after picking up Skylar Diggins, the #3 pick in the WNBA draft, as well as Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano.
This week, Kevin dropped his relationship with agent Rob Pelinka and the Landmark Sports Agency to run with Hova. Durant’s old company also represents Kobe Bryant, so this can’t make them happy.
Durant is a workhorse, with the highest free throw shooting percentage in the league, along with a game that doesn’t quit. He would be the first male basketball player to sign with Jay-Z. Now, that’s big pimpin.
Insiders say that Durant doesn’t have to sign with Roc Nation Sports just yet. In 2010, the 24-year-old extended his contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder for $85 million to play through the 2015-16 season. Rather, Durant is looking for a branding deal that would get his jersey, number and name out to masses more like a neo-Michael Jordan or Bryant. (He already has deals with major brands like Nike, Sprint and Gatorade.) In that case, there’s a possibility Roc Nation Sports could ink a deal with Durant around Jay-Z’s Brooklyn Nets problems. Let’s just hope he keeps the news off Instagram.
