Goodbye to a Great One: Grant Hill Announces Retirement from the NBA

Post By RelatedRelated Post

Grant Hill is a great player and a model citizen for the NBA.  He has been in the league for 19 years, and played in the All-Star game seven times.  All of this happened despite being hit with a series of injuries that derailed him over the course of several seasons.

Grant is leaving his latest team, the Los Angeles Clippers in a shower of respect and admiration from his colleagues.  He is probably going to remain in basketball on some level, perhaps as a coach or executive.   He graduated from Duke University and has an attitude that is as good as his game.  His father, Calvin Hill, taught him well.

“I’ve been hinting at it for the last few years and you get to a point where you just don’t want to do it anymore. But I’ve enjoyed it, I’ve loved it,” Hill said while appearing on TNT’s pregame show before Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals.

Hill appeared in just 29 games last season, his first with the Clippers, but he lent a valuable veteran presence.

Gary Sacks, the team’s vice president of basketball operations, called Hill “the embodiment of class, a true professional.”

The 40-year-old forward averaged 16.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.2 steals during a career that included stints with the Clippers, Detroit, Orlando and Phoenix.

“I’m certainly proud of what I’ve been able to do,” he said after the Clippers lost to Memphis last month.

Hill struggled with injuries, particularly his troublesome left ankle.

  1. Is he so great because he was a basketball star? What is wrong with this picture? Where do African American Values sit? Is it about how much money you make, disregarding how many lives you may kill in the process? Why do we make these men and women as heroes, and the communities are going to hell in a hand basket, while they are not using their gain to help where the majority of them came from.

  2. Grant has been a class act throughout his career, a role model for sure, all the best bro as you go forward with further contributions to the game.
