Police found out that a 19-year old boy was behind the shooting that took place in the city of New Orleans on Mother’s Day.  Maybe if he’d been better loved by his own mother, Akein Scott would not have considered doing such a horrible thing to innocent men, women and children.  Scott allegedly opened fire on a Mother’s Day parade in the city, wounding 19 people.  Several are in critical condition.

Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas says that there is surveillance footage of the young man at the scene of the crime.  They claim to have multiple identifications that show that Scott was the one responsible.    Police are searching night and day for the young man, who is surely going to end up in prison for a very long time.  Officers say that he is a drug dealer and has been arrested on both drug and arms charges.

“We would like to remind the community and Akein Scott that the time has come for him to turn himself in,” Serpas said.

Serpas also warned Scott that, “We know more about you than you think we know.”

Police aren’t sure if Scott was the only shooter.   They offered up a $10,000 reward for the young man’s capture and the community stood up and gave several tips to law enforcement.

“The people today chose to be on the side of the young innocent children who were shot and not on the side of a coward who shot into the crowd,” Serpas said.

People in the city of New Orleans are angry about gun violence, which is plaguing their community.  The deaths of innocent children were enough to make people stand up against the crime.  Good for them.

  1. To the writer of the article, you really needed to do some serious FACT FINDING before you made the statement, "Maybe if he’d been better loved by his own mother…." You have no idea how much or little him mother loved him. I could very well be that she loves him as much as your mother loves you. He could have gotten to a point in his life and a place in his heart AND mind that no matter how much she loves/loved him, he was going to do what ever he wanted to! And it was his choice to do the things he did before, on and after mothers day.

    • Exactly! Thanks.

    • Right on

    • Couldn't have said it better!

    • "Maybe if he’d been better loved by his own FATHER??????…." IT TAKE 2 WHERE IS DAD?????

    • No disrespect but I find your comment distracting from the story. I have no problem with the writer associating his monstrous act with a day to appreciate mothers. And I'm sure the victims don't either. Now back to your regular scheduled program.

    • Thank you! That is the first thing many folks want to do is blame the mother and make guesses about the family unit.

    • I think the writer was taking artistic license because of what the day means to a lot of people. They did the same thing during the Valentines day massacres. Nothing nefarious about pointing out a possibility. It's a good article with a very important spin.

    • Terry Getright Bolton If you had truly paid attention to what I said you would see that I wasn't DISTRACTING from the story! What he did was OUT AND OUT WRONG AND HE IS WHERE HE NEEDS TO BE!!! But, in reading this, the writer MADE that their JUMPING POINT. My son did things that had him arrested at a young age and it wasn't because he wasn't loved be myself or his father because he was! And just like I said about this person, my son made up his mind that he was going to do what he wanted to do despite the fact that he had been taught that those things were wrong. We (MOTHER AND FATHER) loved him before and after he did what he did. IT WASN'T A LACK OF LOVE THAT CAUSED MY SON TO DO WHAT HE DID AS COULD BE THE CASE FOR THIS PERSON!!

    • Regik Crear He could have been loved by both parents. He and he alone made that choice.

    • We all are responsible for th choices we make in life. Whether his mother loved him or not…He chose to do what he did and knowing what the possible circumstances would be.

    • That bothered me 2…a straight assumption was made.

  2. We wonder about mass incarcerations No reason under the sun for this senseless crime.

  3. I have two problems with this: one he isn't a 19 year of boy, he is a man and second "maybe if he'd been better loved by his own mother"? Wow so daddy's don't take any role and how could anyone make such a statement like this? Sorry for the crime but he is a grown man and made this decision.

    • Not much of a man.

  4. To the Author. Are you a friend of this guy's family? I doubt it, so the statement about maybe not being loved by his mother is totally irrelevant. Secondly. He is a MAN. And as a man should and hopefiully will be punished for what he did, because that was a straight up cowardly act. Another thing is how are you going to sit there and put the blame on this poor excuse for a human on Momma. I am a man, and where the hell is Daddy? And even though Daddy is not there is no real excuse either. My mother raised me and my brother ALONE, and there is no way I was even thinking about doing stupid crap, period. And you have all of these people whining about us being locked up in "mass incarcerations". Doing stupid crap like this is one reason why. Granted there are some that wrongfully imprisoned, but most of them are right where they belong.

    • Tell it like it is, Kam Steele

  5. OMG! Y N NEW ORLEANS, MY IRTH HOME***.

  6. HOW AWFUL HOMEES!

  7. When did the line between journalism and editorializing disappear completely? This "writer" needs to find a different job. Don't smear the name of a criminal's mother! He did what he did all on his own.

    • Exactly Rebecca Beach !!

  8. I don’t care if he came from bad household or his mother wasn’t not there for him. There are a lot of men out there who are motherless….they don’t go around trying to kill people on mother’s day!sorry…no sympathy for this garbage. They need to lock his ass up for life and keep him there!

  9. There’s not one reason under the Sun for this fool to have a gun and to use it on innocent human beings. This is one reason there is mass incarcerations because idiots like this.

  10. I agree with all that is been said. Why place the blame on anyone beside the young man if he in fact is guilty. People make choices and choices have consequences and no one will go down with you in the courtroom beside yourself. It is sad for everyone including the guilty one and his loved ones as well. No one wins in these cases.

    • My son would never do anything this heartless. But if he did I'd accept part of the blame. But at the same time. My punishment would be far worst then prison. My son graduated from Purdue university and I accept some of the credit for that. My Pastor once said, ''if you want to see bad parent(s), follow a bad child home.

  11. What right did you have to have to blame his mother for a senseless crime that this young man is very capable of taking responsibility for? Is this a news article or an editorial? What an insensitive and hateful thing to say in light of the fact that this took place on Mother's Day. SMH…..

  12. Da fucc b wrong wif niccas man smmfh!!!!

  13. This is why I totally agree in the distribution of the morning after pill for all teens. If it's not the parents fault from raising them then at least they will have a choice rather, or not to bring an idiot with no morals into this world.

    • MAYBE YOUR MOTHER SHOULD HAVE TAKING THE MORNING AFTER PILL WITH YOU RONALD BLAIR. IF NOT THEN ABORTION WERE AVAILABLE/LEGAL!! ASS HOLE1

  14. Yall violence is got to stop

  15. Lock his a$$ up & throw away the key!!! I have no pity for a simple-minded son-of-a-b!tch like this. There is no excuse for his actions. None whatsoever!

  16. The writer said, “perhaps”. Yes, writing is fundamental, and so is reading! It doesn’t take rocket science to understand that this kid missed out on love. However, that doesn’t excuse his criminality.

By his action, I can tell you he is not a man. I just hope they catch him before he has any babies. Because parents do make the difference and if he is a parent, we are into another generation of crime.

  17. Wow!

  18. I'm going to say this again but in a different way – A parent's love is not always the only factor in why people do what they do/don't do! Love CAN'T stand at anyone's side and say, "You didn't get enough of me so go do this or that." People make up their own minds as to what they are going to do no matter how much or little they are loved by the people/person raising them. He did this of his on accord because he wanted to and I doubt that his mother was there telling him, " I never loved you so shoot up all the people". So stop trying to lay this at any ones feet be HIS.

  19. PLEASE SPARE ME THE BS. HE IS A COWARD!

  20. Why is this called a gun crime? Did a gun walk up and shoot those people, or did Akein Scott use a gun to do so? Which was capable of thought and self locomotion, Scott or the gun? Plus, why should those people have to suffer because Mr. Scott may have had a bad relationship with his mom. Wake up people!

If you hold a gun responsible for this crime, then you must also a rope responsible for a lynching! It’s the people element, folks!

  21. I was waiting to hear the specifics about something his mother did to him. The entire tone of this article sounds a little off.

  22. OK THIS IS ANOTHER SWEEP EVERYTHING UNDER THE RUG LIKE MOST AFRICAN AMERICANS DO, THIS KID PLANLY HAS ADHD, HE SHOLD HAVE BEEN TREATED FOR THIS WHEN HE WAS A KID, FOR SOME REASON INSTEAD OF GETTING OUR KIDS HELP A HEAD OF TIME IT ENDS UP LIKE THIS, THEN WE WANT TO POINT THE FINGER WHAT NOW!
