If you tuned into the American Idol season finale then you should have been speechless after the amazing performances and relieved that it was finally coming to an end. Oh and don’t forget celebrating the fact that Candice Glover won! But while all of this was going on Natalie Cole was somewhere hating on what she saw on her television.
During last night’s finale before winners were announced, finalist Candice Glover took to the stage to perform her rendition of “Inseparable,” a Natalie Cole hit. She is definitely no the first to perform the R&B hit ,and many people are known for taking on that song, including singer Jasmine Trias, who recorded a cover of it way back from the third season of American Idol. But Glover took a different approach and decided to make this performance a duet, and instead of the show asking Natalie Cole to come sing her song with the American Idol to-be, they asked former contestant Jennifer Hudson to perform with her. Natalie was definitely not feeling that at all!
While the two women sounded great together, Cole was upset at the fact that they neglected to request her voice on the finale, so she took to Facebook and Twitter to get some things off her chest:
Cole’s followers had some mixed feelings about the issue and her comment. They debated on whether or not she was right to be upset, or if she was simply overreacting.
“I thought it was awesome and you should be proud they chose your song and did it so well”
“Wasn’t AI last night about the finalists singing with past American Idol contestants? So what’s the big deal. No one said “Inseparable” was originally recorded by Jennifer Hudson. Candice chose the AI past contestant she wanted to sing with and she chose JHudson. THEY DID THE SONG JUSTICE AND NAT KING COLE WOULD HAVE BEEN PROUD.”
Cole made the cautious decision to not comment any more, and Jennifer Hudson didn’t respond to Cole’s statements either. I mean, the show could have did their part by introducing the song as Cole’s, but I’m curious as to why she would assume that the minute a contestant wants do a duet of it, they would be obligated to call her. They weren’t the first to cover someone else’s song, and despite the drama they gave an exceptional performance!
