Will and Jaden are gearing up for the debut of their new movie, ‘After Earth,’ and are spending nearly every bit of their career time together. The father-son duo recently sat down with Metro to talk about their upcoming film and lives as celebs.

Contrary to what most parents believe about parenting and punishing, Will does not think that the two go hand-in-hand. As the actor explained to the press, “We don’t do punishment. The way that we deal with our kids is, they are responsible for their lives. Our concept is, as young as possible, give them as much control over their lives as possible and the concept of punishment, our experience has been — it has a little too much of a negative quality. So when they do things — and you know, Jaden, he’s done things — you can do anything you want as long as you can explain to me why that was the right thing to do for your life.”Although he doesn’t get punished by mom or dad, Jaden told Metro that he always feels like his dad knows what he’s doing. “This is what I’ve realized: No matter what I do or how I do it, he knows 100 percent of what’s going on,” said the teen star.

  1. Life will punish kids who were not punished by their parents for doing wrong. Grab the popcorn and watch.

  2. Amen Harold.

  3. If you don't discipline your kids the streets will.

  4. Maybe you have unusual kids. At some time another parents should step up and show kids what the conscience would be if they don't behave. I hope the out come is great.

  5. Time will tell Will! I agree with Harold.

  6. They probably feel they have enough money to buy their kids out of any real trouble they get in. No punishments! This has to be one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard

  7. Children learn by example and boundaries this style is very much in keeping with European families decisions come with responsibilities not free will..then again just look at the history of jada!

  9. I don't know if I agree with will smith theory on child rearing but, if a child is paying attention to his/het choices they will realize right from wrong.

  10. Is that why Willow is going around shaving her hair off and your son be talking shit on twitter? Its a good thing your oldest son isnt by Jada and he isnt involved in yall foolishiness.

  11. That works for them because both parents are in the home and neither is working full time job. If most people would give their child more control over their life if they were there to over see them. I can't give my son control if I workinig 10-12 hours a day, I have to control as much as I can and make sure I teach him the things he needs to live in this world.

  12. I use this concept with my son without having this knowledge about Will and Jaden, and it turns out he is a beautiful young man. He turned 18 a few months ago, was just accepted into OSU, straight A student (all of his life), polite and well mannered. I have never raised my hand to him and he’s never been punished. I let him make his own choices growing up and it seems to have served him/me well. I am a proud (single) parent of my son. I’m sure his positive environment had a lot to do with.

  13. Who gives a damn what Will Smith says or does with his kids. Why is this even news worthy?????? UGH!!!!!!!

  14. This is why I don't really care for black entertainers anymore. What the Hell kinda bull-mess is that? I live in the real world…not fantasy world.

  15. I think their method will work for their family in particular, I don't knock them for how they wanna raise their kids they are free to structure their family how they see fit…. the kids seem to be grounded so obviously its affective. The Smith family are living comfortably which allows them to raise their kids in a free manner. They are not subjected to any negativity from their environment like kids in urban community…. while I don't agree with the method I understand why they use it in their family. Their children are already in the public eye show the world is constantly scrutinizing them anyway, that's punishment enough…. if they screw the consequence is that they will be slander and humiliated in tabloids, publicly "tared and feathered" I think they have been raised well enough to understand that so I doubt they will get in any real trouble.

  16. these people are weird.

  17. Is this how Scientologist raise their children?
