Healthier lifestyles have long been a standard within the Hollywood circle. Chef Cheo has been helping athletes and entertainers get into shape and develop healthier eating habits for years. He is currently the in-home chef for actor/director Tyler Perry. Cheo says that he has tailored his current cooking style to Perry’s eating habits, cravings, and moods. Perry “typically eats about four to five small meals a day”. Cheo incorporates numerous items from “pizzas to turkey burgers.” The famous chef says he tries to avoid stressing his customers out when dieting so he tends “to make their comfort food so they feel like they’re not losing anything.”
Cheo’s specialty is this: Taking traditionally unhealthy comfort foods and giving them a more health conscious spin. Patrick Ewing, Tiger Woods, C.C. Sabathia and even Janet Jackson have all prescribed to Cheo’s wisdom in the kitchen. According to Cheo, the aforementioned have all been better off after his assistance. “Everyone I’ve worked with, I’ve seen the transformation.” He spoke about the five years he spent working with Jackson and said that he enjoyed it immensely. He was able to travel around the world trying to keep up her busy schedule and described her as a great person to work with. He says she still utilizes some of the methods that he taught her to this day.
Cheo says that he is a strong supporter of Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” healthy eating campaign for the youth of our nation and says that he wants to see more youth taking advantage of the healthier eating options that have been offered to them. “I would very much like to team up with her and be a spokesperson. Growing up in a predominately black city there were no food programs telling us what to eat”, says Chef Cheo.
