Jada Pinkett Wants More White People On the Covers of Black Magazines

Jada Pinkett-Smith has always been known as a respectable actress and leading lady, but her latest statements has cause some to question that position. The “Set It Off” actress has managed to ruffle a lot of feathers with her comment asking “Will there ever be a day in which women will be able to see each other beyond race, class, and culture?” I must must say the statement is well intended…in a perfect world, one we do not live in!
Jada proceeded with saying:
There is a question I want to ask today. I’m asking this question in the spirit of thinking outside of the box in order to open doors to new possibilities. These possibilities may be realistic or unrealistic. I also want to make it clear that there is no finger pointing here. I pose this question with the hope that it opens a discussion about how we can build a community for women based upon us all taking a deeper interest in one another. An interest where skin color, culture, and social class does not create barriers in sharing the commonality of being… women. With love and respect to all parties involved, my question is this…if we ask our white sisters, who tend to be the guardians of the covers of mainstream magazines, to consider women of color to grace these covers, should we not offer the same consideration to white women to grace our covers? Should women extend their power to other women simply because they are women? To my women of color, I am clear we must have something of our own, but is it possible to share in the spirit in which we ask our white sisters to share with us? I don’t know the answer and would love to hear your thoughts.”
Madame Moire offered her infuriated response HERE.

It should not be taboo to put a woman of another race (White) on the cover of Black magazines — if for a very good reason…or to convey a special message.
For example…back when Marian Anderson was asked to sing in front of the Lincoln Memorial by Ms. F.D. Roosevelt…there were pictures taken of these 2 women (still classic today.) NOW THAT PICTURE WOULD BE OK for a Black magazine.
But just to put some woman on the front of a magazine — or to make some special arrangements for such promotion of white women…. simply because she is WHITE….seems very shallow.

I agree with Jada 100%. We (black people) are always wanting to be looked at as equal with white America, asking them to include us in their lifestyles and publications. What are we saying about ourselves if we create our black publications and not include white America and other races? To exclude white women from gracing Black Women magazine covers, would mean that the race that we ran was in vein only to switch places with our opponent. What have we gained? Many would say that once you let a white woman grace the cover of a black magazine, well, white will take it over. Not true. We didn’t take their mags over when we graced them. And they won’t take over ours. And if they do take control of it, the editors (black) probably had no sense being the position in the first place! We are strong as a people! We are smart! We are determined!
Black women, stop hating on the white women. Stop blaming all white women because your husband or boyfriend chose one of them over you. Stop! If you are going to claim “United Sisterhood”, then do so. But do so in a very fair and just way. Just like you have been wanting the white congregation to do for so many years. Do not come this far to just swap places.
Jada is the on the right track.
