African American Nurse Banned From Handling White Newborn Baby

A Michigan nurse claims she was banned from caring for a newborn child because of her skin color.

Tonya Battle is suing her employers at Hurley Medical Center, in Flint, after they ordered her not to look after the baby in the neonatal intensive care unit following a request from its father, WNEM reports.

The lawsuit states: “The father told the [nurse in charge] that he did not want and African Americans taking care of his baby.”

It adds that, during the conversation with Battle’s supervisor, the father rolled up his sleeve to reveal a tattoo of a Swastika.

Battle, an employee at Hurley Medical Center, says she saw a note in the patient’s file that read: “No African American nurse to take care of baby.”

The court documents say: “She [BATTLE]was shocked, offended and in disbelief that she was so egregiously discriminated against based on her race and re-assigned.”

I beg to differ..I work in a hospital as well and it’s has happen to us. But the hospital gave the option for parents to go else where for treatment and explained that this type of behavior is not tolerated

First of all she didn’t see what the man had on his arm, second it is a parents right to say who they want caring for their child, I don’t agree with it but I would not leave my job for one person views, He may have had a bad experience with a black nurse or doctor before, We don’t know the whole story, Sometimes we take racism too far, Sometimes things may not be racist and we just look at it that way. There are three sides to a story her view, the hospital view, and the truth.

Many parents underestimate the sensitivity of their child’s skin. While it may be tempting to save money and use the same dry skin care products on your baby’s skin as you would on your own, this can cause serious problems. Imagine using bar soap on the sensitive skin of your face as compared to a specialty product designed for the chemistry of your skin. It would likely end up causing you a great deal of discomfort. The same thing would happen to your baby’s skin if you were to consistently use products geared for adults to cleanse it. An unhappy baby can be a very loud baby, and dry skin can make babies incredibly unhappy…

Wow, this attitude would have really benefited all of the former slaves who were force to care and nurse their children…..That’s amazing now the individual from the dominant pop. doesn’t want any African American to care for his child…..
