Famed producer, Teddy Riley, is all business with his daughter Taja Riley. It’s business, nothing personal. Riley is suing his daughter over a song that he worked on with Lady Gaga. Riley wrote the music and Gaga wrote the lyrics. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Riley’s daughter was hoping that her dad would give her a songwriting credit, helping her launch her career as a songwriter. But instead Taja, Sony/AVI, and EMI Music Publishing are being sued by the producer for falsely taking credit for the song, “Teeth”, which appears on Lady Gaga’s “Monster” album. Riley filed papers in California federal court.
The lawsuit alleges that “after completion of the [“Teeth”] song, and its selection for inclusion as a track on Lady Gaga’s album, he and Taja had a discussion about whether he would be willing to similarly gift a songwriting credit to Taja Riley to assist her in starting her musical and entertainment career as well.” Riley says that he never had that type of agreement with his daughter. Taja Riley signed a songwriting deal with EMI Publishing, as a result of taking credit for co-writing “Teeth” and 25% interest in the song.
Riley says “the representations made by Taja Riley as to participation in the creation of the composition, authorship, and ownership are all false and untrue and that Defendant Taja Riley did not participate in any way in the creation of the composition, and did not own any rights whatsoever to The Song.”
