When you hear about stuff like this, you have to ask yourself, “What in the world are people thinking?” Parents and kids were fighting at the bus stop over some of the silliest stuff you could imagine: A Facebook post. What makes it even stranger is that they were all being videotaped at the time of the brawl. We don’t know what kinds of parents these are, but it’s nothing to be proud of, that’s for sure. So much for the anti-bullying campaigns.
When asked if he did anything wrong, 18-year-old Aquan McEachean told reporters, “No … but defend myself.”
Police Chief Greg Geppert said as many as 60 to 70 people were involved in the fights last Monday and Tuesday afternoon near Pittsburg, Pennsylvania at a school bus stop for Woodland Hills High School students.
The fights were recorded and later posted to YouTube…seen below.
Police also arrested Mark Long, 18, and Richard McKnight, 48. McKnight, seen below, told Channel 4 Action News’ Bob Hazen he was only defending his children.
“They got ambushed, you know. They got put in harm’s way,” said McKnight. According to police, McKnight pulled one fighter off of his son, but he also punched one person in the face. McKnight said he had to get involved because no one else would.
“Me, as a parent, I did what I thought was best to try to break this up, to resolve this problem, because there were no officials there. So I got victimized for trying to protect my sons and a couple more sons,” McKnight told Hazen.
Police believe the fights were planned, because several people were seen in the video waiting for action with cellphone cameras in hand.
Investigators have not said what started the brawl, but believe it may have something to do with a post on Facebook. Police are hoping to identify more people in the videos.
