Looks like Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey are already off to a good start with their partnership for her television network OWN.
Two months after striking a deal to collaborate on scripted content for the channel, Perry has announced two series that will launch on OWN in mid-2013—one a sitcom and the other a drama.
The comedy, “Love Thy Neighbor” is set in Love’s Diner, where every day the menu serves up good food, great laughs, valuable life lessons and a lot of love for its zany neighbors.
The drama, “The Haves and the Have Nots” is a show about an affluent family The Cryer’s and the impoverished family of their housekeeper, Hanna, and the obstacles and secrets that exist within both.
Both series will be shot at the Hollywood mogul’s Atlanta-based Tyler Perry Studios and Perry will write, direct and executive produce the shows.
Episode orders for both projects are unclear with additional writers and producers expected to be added.
Perry earned previous success in the sitcom realm for his shows on the TBS network. Two of his TBS series “House of Payne” and “Meet the Browns” currently air in national syndication, and his latest effort “For Better or Worse” still airs on TBS each Friday night.
