The Israeli government has come under fire from international critics who are turned off by their killing of so many innocent women and children. The Israelis say that the attacks on neighboring Palestine are only to protect themselves, but they tend to kill far more Palestinians than the original aggression might suggest. Also, their determination to build additional settlements in the West Bank has also come under fire.
Singer Stevie Wonder was heavily criticized for performing at a benefit concert for Israeli defense forces. The benefit was scheduled for December 6 for Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, set to raise money for families of Israeli soldiers. Those who support the Palestinians say that Wonder shouldn’t be working to put money into the hands of those who are referred to as racist baby killers, and even the unflinching support from the United States is starting to crack just a bit.
Former President Jimmy Carter has been ostracized for being outspoken about the way the Israelis treat the Palestinians. He was part of drawn out peace negotiations in the middle east and feels that the Israelis are guilty of abusing their power.
Wonder claims that the United Nations suggested that he cancel the concert because he is an official “Messenger of Peace” for the group. The United Nations has been in support of the creation of a Palestinian state, which has led to intense opposition from the Israeli and US governments.
