Entertainment Tonight has confirmed that Jamie Foxx will be starring in the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, as Electro. Foxx told ET’s Nancy O’Ddell, “I met with the director, Mark Webb, I met with Andrew Garfield, and we talked. … I think Electro will be an exciting character to play because he’s a … genius electrician-type person, and he gets the short end of the stick from the whole world, and the next thing you know he turns it on.”
Rumors had been out there, about Foxx taking on the villain, but had not been confirmed until now. Foxx even dressed up as the Spidey rival, for Halloween. He was probably speaking it into existence and preparing for the part. Mark Webb had already hinted to the fact that the villain may be part of the sequel, when he promoted The Amazing Spider-Man on Blue Ray, saying, “I like Green Goblin. I like Electro a lot. I think Electro is pretty fantastic.”
It was also announced that star, Dane Dehaan (Chronicle and Lincoln) will join the cast as Harry Osborn. Webb tweeted, “Meet Harry Osborn. So excited to have him on board. @danedehaan.” An action film of this caliber is a great look for Oscar winner Foxx. The versatile actor is also starring in what is sure to be a box office hit, Django Unchained, along with Kerry Washington, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Samuel L. Jackson. Django is set for release Christmas Day.
